Mike Jacobs Paintings and Drawings

Mike Jacobs: paintings

Methods:

I currently paint using a strong colorful palette.

I use both the automatic and conscious sides of my brain when painting and drawing.

I usually but not always start a painting without a preconceived idea of what I am going to create.

But my paintings end up being "about" something as my conscious makes the connections between the lines and shapes, attaching meaning and context.

Bio:

Born and live in New York City.

1970's-2000's: I spent decades drawing from my imagination with drawing pens on paper, mostly in b/w on a small scale in a tight, controlled way.

Illustrated for magazines, greeting cards, etc. Exhibited in group and solo shows. Amassed a large collection of drawings privately held.

Began painting with acrylic paints in 2004.

2005:  One man show of paintings in Hartford, Conn at Charter Oaks Cultural Center

2006:  Group show: BWAC Art Show in Red Hook Brooklyn: Bird Flu Paintings

2006:  Group Show: Soke Fine Art Gallery Denver Colorado: Americana-ish Sports Paintings

2007:  Group Show: Outside In Art Show at the GAGA Gallery in Garnerville, NY: Fifteen of my latest paintings. Ostensibly a  an "outsider" artist show.  But the definition bent a bit to accommodate me.
